St. Cloud, Minn- One day after securing the North Division first-half championship, The Mankato MoonDogs hit the road for a Sunday evening showdown, defeating the St. Cloud Rox 9-3 at Joe Faber Field.
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the 4th inning, Trey Nielson (Utah) smashed a three-run homer over the left-field wall. The homerun, Nielson’s third this season, sparked a five run 4th inning for the Dogs.
Nielson was one of seven MoonDogs to post a multi-hit day, going 2-for-5 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Drew Stankiewicz (Arizona St.) went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Zach Luevonos (Lamar) also had a good day at the plate, finishing the day 2-for-5 with a Double and an RBI.
Starting Pitcher Wayland Moore (Marshall) earned his third straight win, allowing two runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings.
The MoonDogs (25-7) now return home for a seven game home stand at Franklin Rogers Park. Monday night’s game against the Waterloo Bucks will be t-shirt give-away night presented Hickory Tech. The first 500 fans will receive a free MoonDogs t-shirt courtesy of Hickory Tech.
