MANKATO, Minn.- In a too close for comfort Thursday night game, the Mankato MoonDogs started the second half off with a 5-4 victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats at Franklin Rogers Park.

With the win, the first half North Division champions, the MoonDogs, extended their winning streak to ten, a new franchise record. The ‘Dogs were led offensively by Chad Christensen (Nebraska) who went 2-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs, a triple and one run scored.

The MoonDogs had a big first inning, driving in three runs, and by the fifth inning the ‘Dogs lead the Cats 5-1. Thunder Bay’s designated hitter, Scott Donley (Indiana) led the Border Cats in a comeback attempt. Donley went 3-5 at the plate, with an RBI, two runs scored and a homerun. The lefty’s homerun in the ninth inning closed the ‘Dogs lead 5-4.

On the bump, MoonDogs starting pitcher, Davis Henderson (Oklahoma City) recorded his second win of the season. The right-hander tossed 5 1/3 innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out three Cats to improve his ERA to 5.40.

The MoonDogs continue to rewrite the record books in 2012, with Patrick Goelz (Oklahoma City) setting a new MoonDogs career record, earning his Northwoods League leading 10th save of the season, and 20th of his career.

The ‘Dogs will be back in action at Franklin Rogers Friday to finish their series with Thunder Bay at 7:05 p.m. It is soft baseball giveaway night presented by Subway, the first 300 kids will receive a MoonDogs soft baseball.
