MANKATO, Minn.- After another slow start the MoonDogs battled back for a 10-8 victory over the Waterloo Bucks at the Frank Sunday night in game two of the Waterloo three game series.

The score was 7-4 in Waterloo’s favor going into the seventh inning of Sunday’s game and the MoonDog fans were starting to wonder when the Dogs’ were going to kick it into gear. The MoonDogs did nothing other than put the ball in play in the seventh and that made all the difference. The big inning never had an extra base hit, and the Dog’s recorded five separate singles to spray the infield to go along with two Buck errors to keep the runners moving. The MoonDogs put together six runs to go ahead by three, which ended up being enough to win.

Zach Hall (Parkland) got the start on the hill tonight and went 6.0 innings, recorded six strikeouts, and let go eight different Waterloo hits.

After Hall ran out of gas the MoonDogs had to look for their bullpen to pick the team up. Alex Hill came in for relief for Hall, and went one inning, striking out one, and gave up a hit. Hill picked up the win for the MoonDogs which was his second win on the season.

Derek Howell (Louisiana Lafayette) came in after Hill to pitch for one inning, striking out two, and only giving up one hit.

Patrick Goelz (Oklahoma City) then came in for the ninth to close out the game which ended up being his twelfth save of the season while he struck out one batter, and gave up a hit.

The second half of the game became a true bullpen effort while the relievers did their job for maintaining the lead after the big seventh inning.

The big hitters for the evening consisted of David Andriese (California Riverside) who was the designated hitter for the night, and went 3-for-5, one run, and a run batted in. The other hitter of the night was Chase Simpson (Oklahoma) who played first base, went 2-for-4 with a run and a run batted in.

The MoonDogs started out a little slow after the tough loss Saturday night, but proved they were the better team by doing the little things right, and putting the ball in play to pull out a come back victory v. the Bucks.

The Dog’ will travel to Waterloo for Monday’s match which will start at 7:05 p.m. for game three of the three game series.

The next home game at the Frank will be Tuesday night v. the Rochester Honkers for a 7:05 p.m. start.
