MANKATO, Minn.–The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is thrilled to announce that the MoonDogs, with a 42-27 overall record, have secured home field advantage for the 2012 NWL playoffs.
The playoffs kick off Monday for the ‘Dogs against the Willmar Stingers at Bill Taunton Stadium. The 7:05 p.m. game will be the fourth NWL Divisional Series appearance in five years for the MoonDogs. That is not the case for their opponents, the Stingers, who will make their first appearance in franchise history Monday after securing their playoff spot with the best second half record (21-13) in the North Division.
Starting on the hill for the ‘Dogs in game one at Willmar will be Riverside, Calif. native, Adam Mott (New Mexico State). The six-foot-five inch, 240-pound right-hander is 5-3 on the season with a 3.14 ERA. In 66.0 innings of work, Mott has allowed 23 earned runs on 56 hits, while striking out 42 and walking only 15.
The MoonDogs, who have home field advantage, will head back to Franklin Rogers Park Tuesday for game two of the Divisional Series. They will remain at The Frank Wednesday if a deciding game three is needed. All games will start at 7:05 p.m.
Six-foot-two-inch, 250-pound Pass Christian, Miss. native, Boomer Scarborough (Southern Miss) will start on the Mound for the ‘Dogs in game two at The Frank. Despite limited action, Scarborough is posting a 6.53 ERA after 20.2 innings pitched. The Right-hander has allowed 15 earned runs on 22 hits, while striking out 16.
