MANKATO, MINN – While the Mankato MoonDogs were able to use 15 runs to earn a victory in their last outing, on Sunday night all they needed was a single run to do the job.  The MoonDogs shut out the Alexandria Blue Anchors 1-0 at Franklin Rogers Park thanks large in part to the performance of starting pitcher Jon Perrin (Oklahoma State).

Perrin (3-2) pitched eight innings in the pitchers’ duel, throwing only 103 pitches, stringing out eight hits but not allowing anyone across home, striking out six in the process.   The Olathe, Kansas native had plenty of help from his defense, as Mankato time-and-time again came up with timely outs especially when Alexandria was threatening to score.  Ten Blue Anchors were stranded on base in the game.

Jess Amedee (UT-Arlington) picks up his ninth save of the year as he replaced Perrin prior to the ninth inning, leaving him one shy of the Northwoods League lead.  The right-handed All-Star burned right through an Alexandria offense desperate to get on the board, picking up three strikeouts in four at-bats to clinch the shutout for Mankato.

Two doubles in the second inning were all the MoonDogs offense needed to come out on top on Sunday night.  Hibraim Cordova (University of the Cumberlands) led off the inning with a double to left field, and Quinnton Mack (New Mexico State) was able to bring him home on the next at-bat to score the game’s only run.

Corey Fitzgerald (St. Cloud State, 0-5) takes the loss for Alexandria after a valiant performance of his own.  The right-hander made it through six and a third innings, allowing only four hits and one earned run, striking out four.

The victory is Mankato’s fourth shutout this season, the second at Franklin Rogers Park.  The MoonDogs improve to 8-3 in the Second Half while the Blue Anchors fall to 3-8.  The two teams complete their home-and-home series Monday night at Knute Nelson Memorial Stadium in Alexandria, slated for a 7:05 start.

After Monday’s game in Alexandria the MoonDogs return to Mankato to take on the Rochester Honkers on July 16, which happens to be Summer St. Patty’s Day at the Frank, presented by Printwear Graphics and Hot 96.7.

Great seats are available to all remaining home games, on sale at the MoonDogs office located at 1221 Caledonia Street in Mankato, as well as over the phone at 507-625-7047.  To stay up to date, Like the MoonDogs on Facebook and Follow us on Twitter (@MoonDogsBall), or visit the website at www.mankatomoondogs.com.
