&nbspSt. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud Rox and the Mankato MoonDogs kicked off a two-game series Saturday night at Joe Faber Field with the Rox edging Mankato by the final score of 8-6.

The MoonDogs took an early lead in the top of the second with Quinton Mack (New Mexico State) leading off the inning with a triple and later scoring on a Matt Wollenzin (Austin Peay State) RBI single, giving the Dogs a 1-0 lead.

&nbspThe Rox took a 3-1 lead in the third inning with a two out rally, and extended their lead again in the 5th with Rox third baseman Chris Paul &nbsphitting a two-run double down the left field line to extend the Rox lead to 6-1.

The MoonDogs put two runs on the board in the top of the seventh off a wild pitch and a Hibraim Cordova (U of the Cumberlands) RBI single.&nbsp Alex Polston closed the scoring gap in the 8th &nbspinning with a two-run double making it a 7-6 game on one out. Rox reliever Jay Flaa would come in to pitch for the Rox to end the inning with back to back strikeouts.

St. Cloud would again load the bases in the bottom of the 8th inning, and later scored an insurance run on a two out wild pitch making it an 8-6 Rox lead.

MoonDogs starter Ryan Quick (Austin Peay State) suffered the loss going just 4.1 innings, allowing six runs on four hits while striking out three Rox batters.&nbsp Quick finished the season with a 2-1 record over 33.1 innings this season.

St. Cloud starter Eric Nyquist improved to 5-3 on the season, workings six strong innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five MoonDogs batters.&nbsp

The two teams will wrap up the 2013 season Sunday night with a 705pm start time at Joe Faber Field.&nbsp Bryan Bonnell (UNLV) takes the mound for Mankato.&nbsp The MoonDogs currently hold a 4-3 edge in the season series, and hope to end their season on a winning note.&nbsp.
