Muttnik the MoonDog to Jump for Polar Bear Plunge Fundraiser
The Mankato MoonDogs Mascot Muttnik will be taking the plunge and jumping into Hallet’s Pond on Saturday, February 1, 2014 for the LEEP Special Olympics Team in St. Peter, MN.
"LEEP has 27 brave Polar Bear Plungers on our team, and Muttnik will make 28. We are fortunate to have a community that not only supports our athletes, but one that is willing to jump into the frigid waters to show it!"-Cate DeBates, LEEP Program and Volunteer Coordinator. New this year, fifty percent of all proceeds raised online will be donated back to LEEP Special Olympic teams.
Leisure Education for Exceptional People (LEEP) has been named the largest Special Olympics delegation in Minnesota. In 2013, LEEP had 14 different Special Olympics teams with 272 athletes. Fundraisers like the Polar Bear Plunge help LEEP to serve our local athletes and increase sporting opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities in the Mankato area. The Polar Bear Plunge is in its 17th year, and is presented by Minnesota law enforcement.

The Mankato MoonDogs are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 21st season of summer collegiate baseball, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 115 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including MLB All-Stars Max Scherzer (DET), Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Allen Craig (STL) and Ben Zobrist (TB).
