The Mankato MoonDogs completed the series sweep in Duluth with a 5-2 victory over the Huskies at Wade Stadium on a brisk Thursday evening.

The MoonDogs fell to an early 1-0 deficit, but came back to score two runs in the top of the third on RBI singles by Levi Scott and Tanner Rockwell to take a 2-0 lead.

Mankato then extended its lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth when Derek Umphres scored on a passed ball, after doubling earlier in the inning and Peter Maris picked up an RBI single later in the inning.

Duluth would get one back in the home half of the fifth, but Umphres sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth gave the MoonDogs more than they would need as they capped off the series with a 5-2 victory.

Cord Cockrell was terrific on the mound, allowing just two runs and striking out four over 5.2 innings. Garret Ring and Connor Miller combined for 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and Tyler Mark closed the door with a perfect ninth, including two strikeouts to earn his fourth save of the season.

Austin Christenson suffered the loss for the Huskies, allowing four runs on nine hits.

The MoonDogs continue their road trip on Friday afternoon in Duluth, MN. First pitch from Thunder Bay is slated for 7:05 ET.
