The Mankato MoonDogs picked up a key 7-2 victory in the final game of a four game series with the Alexandria Blue Anchors on Sunday afternoon at Knute Nelson Park.
Ridge Smith put the MoonDogs on the board with an RBI single to left field to give the MoonDogs a 1-0 lead heading into the home half of the second.
Craig Lepre broke a 1-1 tie with a rocket RBI double down the right field line and the MoonDogs headed into the bottom of the fourth with a 2-1 lead. Maris extended the MoonDogs lead to 3-1 with an RBI groundout in the fifth.
The MoonDogs broke the game open when Eric Schenck-Joblinske roped a two-run single to highlight a four-run top of the eighth for the MoonDogs.
Alexandria got one back in the bottom of the eighth, but it was too little too late as the MoonDogs held on for the 7-2 victory.
Cord Cockrell picked up his fifth win of the season, tossing five innings and allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out three. Alex Hackerott picked up the save with four innings of relief for the MoonDogs. The southpaw allowed just one run on two hits and struck out four.
The MoonDogs return home to Mankato to begin a two-game series with the Lakeshore Chinooks. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
