The Mankato MoonDogs dropped the second game of their two game series Friday with the Waterloo Bucks 5-3, finishing their five game road trip with a 3-2 record.
Waterloo plated three runs in the second inning, putting the MoonDogs in an early hole. The MoonDogs mounted a slow comeback against Waterloo, scoring one run in the fourth, sixth, and seventh inning to force a tie with the Bucks. CJ Huntley (Indiana State) was responsible for driving in all three runs.
Waterloo found an answer to the Mankato rally, scoring two in the bottom of the seventh to distance themselves from the MoonDogs.
Mankato would have a runner on in the eighth inning with two outs, but were unable to mount any more of a comeback.
Josh Ramirez (Washburn) and Brett Newberg (Austin Peay) were the two pitchers used by the MoonDogs Friday night, in a game that followed a rain delay that spanned almost six hours. The game wrapped up around 1:45 AM on July 20th.
Huntley contributed with 3 RBIs, while Kenton Crews (Evansville) collected two hits with a double. Sean Noel (North Dakota State) made his debut at catcher and threw out two batters.
The Mankato MoonDogs are back at home for the first time in a week Saturday and Sunday, facing the Eau Claire Express for the final two times at home.
Jarod Wright (Southern Mississippi) and Nathan Hickey (Tarleton State) are expected to start against Eau Claire, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 Saturday, and 3:05 Sunday.
