St. Cloud, MINN. – The Mankato MoonDogs took down the St. Cloud Rox 5-2 on Thursday night at Joe Faber Field, securing the series win after winning both games in St. Cloud.

The Rox got on the board first with two runs in the first inning, but the MoonDogs quickly answered in the third. Sean Griggs (Monmouth University) tied the game with an RBI double before Kyle Hvidsten (Liberty University) gave Mankato the lead with a two-run single.

Mankato added another run in the fifth when Hvidsten came through again, bringing home his third RBI of the night. Griggs added another run in the seventh to give the MoonDogs a 5-2 lead.

Hvidsten finished the night 1-for-4 with three RBI and a stolen base, while Griggs went 2-for-5 with two runs, an RBI and a double. Josey Williamson (University of Alabama) also collected two hits.

Logan Gross (Colorado Mesa University) turned in a strong start on the mound, going seven innings and allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out seven. Blake Gordon (Palomar CC)  finished the game with two scoreless innings and a strikeout to earn the save.

The Rox outhit the MoonDogs 9-8, but three St. Cloud errors helped Mankato hold onto the lead and finish off the series sweep.

The MoonDogs return home Friday to continue their season against the Badlands Big Sticks scheduled for 6:35 pm.
