The MoonDogs finished what they started in the suspended game from Tuesday night, as they defeated the Madison Mallards in game 1 of a double-header, 2-1.

Both starting pitchers dominated the game, holding their respective opponent at bay for 5 innings. MoonDogs starter Justin Garcia did one better, tossing 6 innings of scoreless ball.

With the score still tied 1-1 going into bottom of the seventh inning, the ‘Dogs made their push to take the victory. Brad Baker got the rally started with a 1 out single, then Ryan Chiarelli followed with a single of his own to put runners at first and second base.

Looking for more speed at second base, Coach Brad Rupert went to his bench and put in Brady Dolan as a pinch-runner. Coach Ruperts’ move paid off when Grant Rembert’s single through the left side scored Dolan and the catcher couldn’t come up with the throw cleanly from left-field.

Garcia completed all 7 innings, giving up 1 run on 6 hits, and striking out 6 Mallards. With the win, Garcia improved his record to 4-2 on the season.

With the game winning hit, Grant Rembert finished 2-2 with a double and 1 RBI.
