Woodchucks Mow Down MoonDogs

After "The King and His Court” finished up with their world famous antics on the field, the MoonDogs and Woodchucks faced off in game one of their two-game series at "The Frank”. Both teams battled hard, but it was the Woodchucks who pulled away with a four run seventh inning, to win 9-4.
The Woodchucks had a slim 3-2 lead going into the seventh inning. That all changed when Wisconsin loaded the bases for Scotty Madsen who doubled to score two runs. Michael Mckennon then tripled to bring in two more and extend the lead to 7-2.
The MoonDogs put together a rally in the 8th inning, loading the bases with one out for the heart of their order. L.J Mims doubled to score two runs but the rally ended their as Woodchucks pitcher Jeffrey McCollum worked his way out of the jam to pick up his 3rd save and a 9-4 win.
The Northwoods League leading RBI man, Shane Buschini, led the MoonDogs in hitting going 2-4 with a pair of RBI, one walk, and a double. Mims also contributed to the night, going 2-5, with two RBI, one double and a steal.
Bobby Lewton started his first career Northwoods league game after six appearances in relief. Working in 5 innings he allowed his first run in Northwoods League play. Derek Tarapacki made a noteworthy appearance, pitching 1.2 innings and striking out three Woodchucks.
Game two of the series will begin Tuesday, June 28, at 7:05 p.m. It will be St. Peter Night, presented by First National Bank of St. Peter and Security State Bank of Mankato.
