How Sweet It Is!!!
(6/6/05) If someone would have told any of the MoonDogs fans attending the Home Opener Monday night, that the ‘Dogs were on a five game losing streak, no one would have believed it. Not one of the record setting 1,509 fans in attendance, would be able to grasp the thought after watching their ‘Dogs route the St. Cloud River Bats 9-0.
The MoonDogs came out firing on all cylinders thanks to great hitting and sloppy play by the River Bats. They put up 3 runs in the first three innings, including a monster shot to right field by Drew Davis. Davis had a career night going 2-4 with 4 runs, 3 RBI, 2 stolen bases and a double to go along with his home run ball.
Jon Rupno extended his hitting streak to 6 games with a 2-5 night with 2 runs scored. The newly acquired lead off hitter from Concordia University-St. Paul, Jon Schemmel, proved to be a valuable spot in the lineup against his former team going 1-2 with 3 walks and 3 runs.
The MoonDogs ace, Tyson Brummett, worked a phenomenal outing holding the River Bats hitless through 7 innings while picking up the MoonDogs first win of the season. In his 8 innings of work, Brummett sent 9 batters packing to the dugout courtesy of the whiff. Neil Wagner relieved Brummett in the ninth inning to secure the combined shut out.
The MoonDogs will enjoy an off day on Tuesday, as the Major League Amateur Draft kicks off. They will return to "The Frank” on Wednesday at 7:05 to take on the La Crosse Loggers. For ticket information call the MoonDogs ticket office at 507-625-7047.
