MoonDogs Storm Blue Thunder!!
(6/12/05)

With the first place Brainerd Blue Thunder rolling into town, and the MoonDogs on a four game slide, hopes that the ‘Dogs would stop their losing streak were low. That was until the MoonDogs ace, Tyson Brummett took the mound and the bats awoke in the third inning to propel the ‘Dogs to an 11-4 upset over the Blue Thunder.

When the Blue Thunder put up 4 runs in the third inning which included a two run jack by Dan Quinn, the ‘Dogs called for their arsenal of bats to get the job done. Answering the call, the MoonDogs sent 10 batters to the plate in the third inning scoring 5 runs including a grand slam from Shane Buschini who made the most of his Northwoods league debut.

With the score 5-4, Brummett completely shut down Brainerd’s offense allowing just one hit after the third until he was relieved by Kevin Regan.

A four hit, five run inning in the 5th, extended the MoonDogs lead to 10-4. The MoonDogs scored for a final time in the 7th when Drew Davis singled with runners on first and second to bring in L.J. Mims and win with an 11-4 score.

UCLA’s Brummett came out dealing, whiffing the first 6 batters he faced and finishing with 9 strikeouts total in his win over the Blue Thunder. Regan also had a solid outing going 2.2 innings and giving up no runs with four strikeouts.

The MoonDogs lit up the scoreboard with 11 hits. They were led by L.J. Mims who had 3 hits in his 4 at bats and plated 3 runs while driving in 2 runs. Buschini finished the night off with 2 hits in 3 at bats including a home run, 4 RBI, 2 runs, 1 stolen base and 2 walks. Another member of the MoonDogs who made the most of his Northwoods League debut was Reid Fronk from the University of North Carolina. The third baseman went 2-5 with a double, one run scored and one RBI.
