(7/17/06) Five straight hits led to a four-run outburst in the fourth inning, and Matt Mossey had his second consecutive strong start to lead the Mankato MoonDogs past the Alexandria Beetles 5-1 Monday night.

The fourth inning rally was highlighted by a two-run double by Adam Kampsen, whose six doubles now lead the team. Kampsen’s two-bagger came on the heels of three straight singles by Robert Rodebaugh, Ryan Addison and Nate Hanson and broke a scoreless tie.

Leading 2-0 after Kampsen’s double, the MoonDogs took advantage of some sloppy play by the Beetles, as Hanson scored when the return throw from catcher Digger Towe got away. As it turned out, the error would not have mattered anyway, as Davis followed with the first of his three singles to score Kampsen and give the MoonDogs a 4-0 lead.

With a comfortable lead to work with, Mossey took control and stifled the Beetles for the second time in eight days. After allowing no earned runs over seven innings on July 7, Mossey retired the first 14 batters on Monday before a two-out single by Tim Stewart. He finished by allowing one run on five hits over 6.1 innings to put his ERA at 0.95, third in the league behind teammates Johnnie Lowe and Dane Secott.

Tom Porter threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, and Jason Novak closed the win with two strikeouts in the ninth.
