Duluth, Minn. – The MoonDogs almost pieced together their first comeback win of the season, but fell just short, losing 8-7 to the Duluth Huskies Monday night at Wade Municipal Stadium.

Already trailing 8-1 after four innings, The Mankato offense woke up scoring one run in the fifth, and added four more in what was a wild 6th inning. After a Garrett Fischer (St. Cloud State) lead off single in the sixth, the MoonDogs capitalized on not one but three Duluth errors to put four more runs on the board.

Jorge Flores (Central Arizona) made it a one run game in the 8th inning with his first home run of the season, a solo shot over the left-centerfield wall, but that turned out to be the final run of the night as the MoonDogs went down in order in the top of the ninth, losing 8-7.

Blair Moore (Cal Baptist) lead the MoonDogs offensively, going 3-4 at the plate Monday night with 3 RBI.

Huskies starter Joey Novak (Harvard) Improved to 2-0 on the season, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out six over 5 1/3 innings.

MoonDogs starter Kyle McGrath (Louisville) suffered the loss, reaching the Northwoods league single inning pitch limit in the first, throwing 35 pitches in the frame. McrGrath allowed three runs on three hits while walking two, but struck out the final two batters he would face.

Mankato reliever Matt Marsh (College of Central Florida) was impressive in his second appearance out of the ‘pen, throwing the final four innings, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out four. Alika Pruett (Arizona Christian) struggled in his second appearance of the year, allowing five runs on three hits over three innings.

The MoonDogs are 1-2 on the current road trip, and now 4-2 over all this season.
