Willmar, Mn- The Mankato MoonDog’s offense came alive Monday night in game one of the North Division playoffs at Bill Taunton Stadium. The MoonDogs won 10-5 over the Willmar Stingers, and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three game series. The MoonDogs are now just one win away from advancing to their second consecutive Summer Collegiate World Series.

Adam Mott (New Mexico State) improved to 6-3 overall this summer, and 1-0 in the postseason, picking up the win for the MoonDogs. Mott allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out four, walking one.

Trevor Belicek (Texas A&M Corpus) tossed the final three innings in relief, allowing just one run on three hits, walking one and striking out four.

There was plenty of offense in game one of the series, but Kyle Turner (Missouri Baptist) stole the show. Turner was 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored. Turner stole a base for the ‘Dogs and hit his first postseason home run (3rd this season at Bill Taunton Stadium) to lead the offensive attack. Danny Murphy (Jefferson) also stole a base for the ‘Dogs, finishing his night 3-for-6 at the plate with an RBI and one run scored.

Forrest Allday (Central Arkansas) had two extra-base hits for the Willmar Stingers, doubling in the fifth and seventh innings, finishing his night 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Tanner Banks (Utah) got the start for Willmar, but did not factor in the decision, allowing three runs on four hits over just four innings. Mark Lukowski (Creighton) was the game’s losing pitcher, allowing three runs on five hits over two innings.

The MoonDogs, who have home field advantage, will head back to Franklin Rogers Park Tuesday for game two of the Divisional Series. They will remain at The Frank Wednesday if a deciding game three is needed. All games will start at 7:05 p.m.

Six-foot-two-inch, 250-pound Pass Christian, Miss. native, Boomer Scarborough (Southern Miss) will start on the Mound for the ‘Dogs in game two at The Frank. Despite limited action, Scarborough is posting a 6.53 ERA after 20.2 innings pitched. The Right-hander has allowed 15 earned runs on 22 hits, while striking out 16.
