WATERLOO, Iowa- Levi Scott had a big night at the plate along with the rest of the top of the batting order as the MoonDogs took down Waterloo 13-8, earning a split in their road series against the Bucks.

 

Going into the top of the fourth inning tied 2-2, Eric Schenck-Joblinske reached base with a one out walk. After stealing second, Brett Murray was able to drive him in on a single. Later in the inning with runners on first and second, MoonDogs All-Star Tyler Sullivan found good wood for a single, scoring Brett Murray from second.

 

Mankato kept finding holes in the outfield after that with two outs in the fourth as Peter Maris singled, scoring Craig Lepre. Levi Scott also singled, scoring Sullivan and Maris. Waterloo added two runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth, and two runs in the sixth to pull to within a run 8-7, but the MoonDogs scored another five un the top of the seventh, putting the game out of reach for the Bucks for good.

 

MoonDogs starting pitcher Cord Cockrell went 5.1 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) off nine hits with zero walks and one strikeout, earning him the win. Derek Burkamper took the loss for Waterloo, giving up seven runs (six earned) off seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

 

With the victory, the MoonDogs improve to (11-8) in the north division, second half standings, one game from first place Eau Claire (12-7). The Bucks drop to (11-8).

 

The MoonDogs will have Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off for the Northwoods League All-Star break but will be back in action on Thursday to face the Alexandria Blue Anchors at Knute Nelson Memorial Park with first pitch at 6:35pm.
