St. Cloud, MN – The Mankato MoonDogs survived a scare in the ninth and tenth innings to best the St. Cloud Rox 5-4 in ten innings. Mankato moved into a three-way tie for first place in the second half standings, winning their third in a row in the process.
The MoonDogs plated two runs in the first on a CJ Huntley (Indiana State) RBI single, staking starter Blake Tritch (North Dakota State) to an early advantage.
The Rox ripped off three straight runs in the coming innings, giving the St. Cloud a one run lead after five. Zac Wiley (Bellarmine) put the MoonDogs back in front in the sixth with a two run single, a lead the MoonDogs kept until the ninth.
Looking for his ninth save, Zach Hardy (New Mexico State) struck out the first batter he faced before conceding a double. With two outs, Connor Aube of the Rox smacked a double of his own, tying the game.
The MoonDogs went to work in the tenth, as Huntley drove in Kyle MacDonald (Arkansas State) to score the winning run.
Out again for the tenth, Hardy worked around a leadoff single to earn the win. Mankato took their third in a row, and their ninth in ten tries.
Now in a tie with the Huskies and Stingers, the MoonDogs start a two game series with the Huskies Thursday. First pitch is slated for 6:35 at Wade Stadium.
