ST. CLOUD, MN- The River Bats have recently announced that former Major League umpire and Holdingford native Joe Brinkman will be the Opening Day guest on Saturday, June 5 when they play their first home game of the 2010 season.

The Northwoods League has “gone green” in 2010 with today’s launching of the Northwoods League Virtual Guide. The Guide, found at NWLGuide.com, is the second of four big technical advancements coming to the Northwoods League family of websites prior to opening day on June 2nd. Earlier this month the Northwoods League re-launched www.northwoodsleague.com.

The Eau Claire Express is proud to announce that National Baseball Hall of Fame member Harmon Killebrew will be the guest speaker at this year’s Northwoods League All-Star banquet.

Detroit Tigers second baseman Danny Worth, 24, made his Major League debut Sunday in the Tigers 5-1 win against the Boston Red Sox at Comerica Park. The former Alexandria Beetles all-star and NWL Batting Champion started at second base, batted ninth, and delivered an infield RBI-single off of John Lackey in his first at-bat. He finished 1-for-3 in the game.

Former La Crosse Logger Jordan Pacheco is one of many former Northwoods League players having a terrific start to the 2010 minor league season. Pacheco is the starting catcher for the Modesto Nuts, Class A Advanced of the California League, and is has one of the best batting averages in all of Minor League Baseball.
