Eight games were played Wednesday in the NWL. Five were decided by one or two runs while the three others were 8 or 9 run differentials. Mankato's Ryan Demmin (CG, 3 H, 8 K, W)is pictured.
Outfielder Jason Krizan (Dallas Baptist) cranked his first homerun of the season, hit a double, scored three runs and brought in one run in the Waterloo Bucks 12-3 rout of the Eau Claire Express.
Ryan Demmin (UW-Oshkosh) lived up to his all-star billing allowing just a single unearned run in the first inning and striking out a season-high eight batters for the Mankato MoonDogs in a 2-1 win over Duluth. After the first inning Demmin faced just four batters over the minimum and allowed two hits in earning his fifth win (5-3) of the year while lowering his ERA on the summer to 1.19.
Eau Claire, led by Brooks Pinckard (pictured), routed Waterloo 11-1 while Mankato and Duluth split a twin bill to highlight Tuesday's NWL action.
The Northwoods League has announced that pitchers Richie Erath (Florida Gulf Coast) of La Crosse and Matt Patterson (Creighton) of Duluth have been named to the NWL All-Star game.
Thunder Bay native Jordan Staal screams with joy as he hoists the Stanley Cup after Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. Staal and the Cup will be at the NWL All-Star game in Thunder Bay July 21.
Duluth's Nathan Melendres (Miami) led a 16-hit attack for the Huskies in game two of their doubleheader with Mankato. Melendres was 4-5 with three runs, two RBI and a stolen base to help the Huskies to a 10-6 victory in 11 innings over the MoonDogs.
Mankato's Adam Jung (South Alabama) moved to 3-0 on the year by pitching the last three innings of the suspended June 21st game between the MoonDogs and Duluth. Jung pitched seven innings total in the game, allowing just two hits and striking out five without allowing a run. Mankato won the game in the 14th inning.
Five of the six games played Monday night in the NWL were decided by two runs or less. Mankato (pictured) topped Rochester 4-3 in a afternoon affair.
