Rockers take down Fond du Lac for first time in 2022
Fond du Lac, Wis.-The Green Bay Rockers got back-to-back wins for the first time this season, beating the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 6-3 Wednesday night at Herr-Baker Field.
The Rockers improve to 3-6 on the season, while the Dock Spiders dropped to 7-2 on the season as Green Bay took down Fond du Lac for the first time in 2022.
Green Bay started the scoring off immediately in the top of the first as Griffin Stevens got an RBI single bringing home Chase Hudson, followed by an RBI single from Keniel De Leon, making it 2-0 early in the top of the first in favor of the Rockers.
Following a scoreless bottom half of the first, the Rockers left two runners on base in the top of the second, but still led 2-0 after the first two innings of play.
A wild pitch plated the third run of the game for the Rockers, scoring Matt Scannell from third and then a two RBI single from Mikey Kluska made it 5-0 Green Bay heading into the fourth, as the Rockers tallied six hits through three innings of offense.
After Green Bay went scoreless in the top of the fourth, Logan Berrier threw two more strikeouts, keeping it a 5-0 game through the fourth inning as Berrier threw four strikeouts in the first four innings.
Despite the Rockers going scoreless in the top of the fifth, Berrier cruised along, retiring the Dock Spiders in order, keeping it 5-0 heading into the sixth.
The Rockers tacked on one more in the sixth off another RBI hit from De Leon, as the Rockers took a 6-0 lead after six innings as the Dock Spiders stranded the bases loaded in the bottom half of the inning.
Green Bay stranded the bases loaded in the seventh, but Kyle Stoddard retired the Dock Spiders in the seventh, keeping them off the scoreboard once more.
The Dock Spiders got their first runs of the game courtesy of an RBI single by Jared Payne and a bases loaded walk drawn by Kyte McDonald, but a flyout to center kept the game at 6-2 going into the ninth.
After a scoreless ninth inning for Green Bay, the Dock Spiders tacked on one more in the ninth, but Chase Pelter got the final out, giving the Rockers their third victory on the road this season.
The Rockers will take on the Dock Spiders for the second straight day on Thursday, with the game being played at Fox Cities Stadium, home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. and RJ Taylor and Gus Baylow will have the call on 95.5 and 1400 The Fan.
