Rockers offense comes up short in fourth meeting with Fond du Lac
Appleton, Wis.-The Green Bay Rockers fell to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 7-1 Thursday night at Fox Cities Stadium, snapping a two-game win streak for Green Bay.
The Rockers drop to 3-7 on the season and take their first defeat for the first time since Sunday while the Dock Spiders jump to 8-2 through the first 10 games.
Fond du Lac struck first in the bottom half of the inning, after an RBI sacrifice fly by Grant Hussey, giving them a 1-0 lead after the first two innings of play as neither team stretched runners across in the second inning.
Following a scoreless third and fourth innings for both Green Bay and Fond du Lac, the Dock Spiders added several insurance runs in the fifth, courtesy of a two RBI double from Hussey, making it 3-0 after five innings of play.
In the sixth, Green Bay went 1-2-3 for the second straight inning, as Green Bay only managed two hits through the first six innings of offense.
A scoreless sixth inning from starting pitcher Will Semb kept the deficit at only three as Green Bay searched for their first runs of the game entering the top of the seventh.
The Rockers went down in order once again in the top of the seventh as Fond du Lac in the bottom half of the frame piled on three runs to take control of the game the rest of the way through.
An RBI single from Nick Mitchell started off the inning for the Dock Spiders and a wild pitch and another RBI single made it 6-0, giving Fond du Lac it’s largest lead of the night heading into the eighth.After another 1-2-3 inning by the Green Bay offense, Fond du Lac tacked on one more on a bases loaded walk, giving the Dock Spiders a 7-0 lead entering the ninth.
The Rockers did score one in the top of the ninth, but Fond du Lac retired the last two batters to send themselves home with a victory at Neuroscience Group Field.
Green Bay is back in action on Friday, taking on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at home. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. from Capital Credit Union Park with the pregame concert performed by Doozey set to start at 5:35. It is also Educator’s Appreciation Night and there will also be postgame fireworks presented by Pepsi.
