Green Bay lost in a 10-8 slugfest that saw 28 combined hits
Ashwaubenon, Wis. – The Green Bay Rockers fell in the third meeting against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in 2022 by a final tally of 10-8.
Each team scored in the opening frame. Ben Ross hit a solo home run to right, and Green Bay responded by scoring twice, once on a Griffin Stevens hit, and then on an error by Ross.
The Rockers added three more in the bottom of the second to take a 5-1 lead. Chase Hudson knocked in Mikey Kluska on a single, and Griffin Stevens hit a two-run homer to right.
In the third, the Rafters made it a 5-3 game when Ben Ross hit a two-run inside-the-park home run to right-center field. They then added five more in the fourth to take an 8-5 lead after getting four hits.
In the Green Bay fourth, Griffin Selby singled and scored on an error by Rafters third baseman Brendan Bobo.
On the first pitch of the bottom of the fifth, Keniel de Leon hit a solo home run to cut the Rafters’ lead to one.
The Rafters added one more in the sixth to extend their lead back up to two.
Mikey Kluska doubled with one out in the Green Bay eighth, and Griffin Stevens singled him home to make it a 9-8 game. Stevens finished the game with three hits and four RBIs.
Jacob Igawa led off the top of the ninth with a solo home run over the left field, and the Rafters took a two-run lead again.
Green Bay made the bottom of the ninth interesting, but the Rafters ultimately hung on to win, 10-8.
Justin Loer gets the start for Green Bay on Saturday night. He threw six innings of shutout ball in his first Rockers appearance on June 4 against the Woodchucks. Saturday’s first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. at Capital Credit Union Park.
