Green Bay looks for second straight win on the road at Rockford
Ashwaubenon, Wis.- The Green Bay Rockers will begin a five-game road trip, taking on the Rockford Rivets Friday for a two-game series with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. at Rockford Stadium.
The Rockers most recently earned their first home win of the season back on Thursday night, taking down the Lakeshore Chinooks in the second game of the doubleheader 7-1.
Green Bay improved to 6-12 on the season following splitting the doubleheader on Thursday, as Justin Loer pitched in the second game, tossing six innings while just giving up five hits and striking out eight.
Following a 17-11 defeat in the first game of the doubleheader on Thursday, the Rockers strung together seven runs on 11 hits with two Rockers players hitting their first home runs of the season.
Brendan Ryan and Owen Jackson each hit home runs over the right field wall to lead the Rockers offense while Tristin Garcia went 2-4 with one RBI as well, as Green Bay scored all seven runs in the first four innings.
Following the six innings of one run ball from Loer, Chase Pelter earned himself the save, pitching the last three innings while giving up three hits and striking out four, giving the Rockers their first home win in 2022.
The Rivets enter this two-game series 8-10 after falling in their most recent game on Thursday to Battle Creek 3-1, placing them tied for fourth in the Great Lakes East Division.
In terms of the pitching matchup for Friday’s contest, Green Bay will give the ball to Michael Fowler, who will make his second appearance of the season after pitching one inning against Lakeshore back on June 13.
The Rivets will start Ricky Castro who will also make his second appearance of the season after he last pitched four innings against the Kalamazoo Growlers back on June 11.
The Rockers will take on the Rivets for the second time in as many days on Saturday following this Friday night matchup. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
