Green Bay travels to Wisconsin Rapids for final regular season game of 2023
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.- The Green Bay Rockers will look to finish their regular season strong Saturday night against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, with first pitch at Witter Field set for 6:35 p.m. in Wisconsin Rapids.
The Rockers enter this game winners of their last three contests as they’ll look to continue their momentum heading into the postseason with this being the last game of the regular season and what will be the final meeting against the Rafters in 2023.
In what was one of the longest games in Northwoods League history Friday night, it was the Rockers who won 13-2 against the Rafters, in which they led wire-to-wire before and after a two-and-a-half-hour rain delay that saw the game get pushed back towards midnight at Witter Field.
Homers from JoJo Jackson (Georgia St) and Nainoa Cardinez (Hawaii) led the way for Green Bay offensively while Kendal Ewell (Illinois Chicago) had three hits in six at-bats with two runs scored and an RBI to help the Rockers stay out in front.
Seven of the nine Rockers players recorded a hit with four Rockers players recording at least two RBIs to take the commanding advantage against the Rafters, who finished with just one hit as a team themselves.
Henry Chabot (Chapman) earned the win on the mound while Bryce Crabb (University of Northwestern St Paul) did not allow a hit in the first three innings and Jake Liberta (Hawaii-Hilo), Connor Nolen (Carroll) and Tyler Horvath (Case Western Reserve) finished the game on the hill by throwing the final 4.2 innings of the contest.
As for Saturday’s pitching matchup, the Rockers will start Ty Thurman (Colorado State-Pueblo) who is making his second start of the season and his third total appearance of 2023.
In five innings pitched, Thurman has allowed three walks but does have three strikeouts after last pitching Tuesday night against the Mallards at home in his first start of the summer.
Wisconsin Rapids will start Calen Graham (Texas State) who is making his 15th appearance on the season with him having 42 strikeouts in 46.1 innings pitched. Additionally, he has a 4-2 record and a 2.14 ERA through his first 14 games of 2023.
Following this regular season finale, the Rockers will head into postseason play to begin a potential three-game series against the Madison Mallards in the sub-divisional round of the Northwoods League Playoffs. First pitch on the road in Madison is set for 4:05 p.m. at Warner Park.
