Green Bay has now won its past five games
Ashwaubenon, Wis. – The Green Bay Rockers (9-8) blanked the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (6-13) this afternoon, winning 8-0 at Capital Credit Union Park. Green Bay has won eight of its past nine games after today’s result, and will host Fond du Lac again tomorrow at 1:05 p.m.
Setting the tone for the Rockers was starting pitcher Landon Victorian. In 3.2 innings of work, the high school senior only allowed a single hit and struck out seven Dock Spiders. Victorian has now made three starts and is yet to give up a run.
The righty’s torrid day on the bump was capitalized upon early by the Rockers offense. A pair of RBI-singles from Makani Tanaka (Oral Roberts) and Sam Miller (Columbia) in the third and fourth innings put Green Bay up 2-0.
But even when Victorian’s day on the mound came to a close, the Rockers still neutralized the Dock Spiders offense. Treshon Paschal (Southern Arkansas) tossed 3.1 no-hit innings of relief to carry Green Bay through the middle portion of the day defensively.
Meanwhile, back on offense, the Rockers pulled away in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a three-run homer off the bat of Mulivai Levu (UCLA) and a RBI-double courtesy of Nick Harms (Case Western Reserve).
For Harms, he would add another RBI-double in the bottom of the seventh to make the lead 7-0. Just a few at-bats later, Sam Miller tacked on one more score on a fielder’s choice.
Up 8-0 after seven, Green Bay called on Steve Marhefke (Upper Iowa) out of the bullpen to close things out — and that’s just what he did. The newest Rocker struck out two batters over the game’s final two innings, only ceding one hit along the way.
Green Bay not only picked up its third shutout of the summer today, but did so by allowing its fewest hits in a game this season. Fond du Lac only collected two knocks on the day.
The Rockers and Dock Spiders meet again at Capital Credit Union Park tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. The matchup is “Wrestling Day” at the park, and fans that show up when gates open at noon will have the chance to meet pro-wrestler Al Snow.
Noon is also when The Cheese Doodles will start playing live music. They’ll go through the end of the third inning. After the game concludes, fans are invited onto the field to play catch.
