Green Bay returns Wednesday as the Rollers for Youth Sports Night at home

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. — The Rockers had momentum, a late lead, and the home crowd behind them. But the Madison Mallards stole the show with two crushing home runs in the final two innings to take the series opener 6–2 at Capital Credit Union Park on Tuesday night.

Green Bay trailed early after the Mallards opened the scoring with a run in the fourth, but the Rockers chipped away and evened things up in the sixth. In the eighth, they briefly took control. Joe Mennella ripped an RBI double into the gap to give the Rockers a 2–1 lead and swing the energy back into the home dugout.

That lead, however, was short-lived. In the top of the eighth, Madison’s MJ Sweeney turned on a pitch and launched a two-run homer to right, suddenly putting the Mallards ahead 4–2. One inning later, Cole Kosciusko followed with a two-run blast of his own, stretching the lead to 6–2 and shutting the door on Green Bay’s comeback hopes.

Offensively, the Rockers were limited to just one extra-base hit—Mennella’s go-ahead double—and couldn’t put together a rally in the ninth. The bullpen, which had held steady through the middle innings, faltered late against a Madison offense that came alive when it mattered most.

Despite the loss, there were bright spots on the mound and in the field, and Green Bay will look to carry those positives into Wednesday night’s rematch.

The Rockers won’t just be looking to bounce back—they’ll be doing it in style. On Wednesday, Green Bay will transform into the Rollers, their alternate team identity, bringing a new name and look to the diamond. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at Capital Credit Union Park.

It’s also Youth Sports Night, a celebration of local young athletes, with giveaways, recognitions, and interactive fun throughout the evening. Pregame live music from Little Cisco will kick off the festivities, creating an electric atmosphere before the first pitch is even thrown.

As the Rockers continue their push through the second half of the Northwoods League season, Wednesday offers a chance to reset, regroup, and roll into a new week with a fresh identity and renewed energy.
