Green Bay falls to Madison after taking a 3-0 lead
Ashwaubenon, Wis. – The Rockers surrendered 10 runs on 12 hits in game one of the final regular season series. They fell by a final score of 10-7 to the Mallards in Warner Park as the Madison bats came alive for two big innings.
Green Bay took the lead early with a two-out rally in the third inning. Daniel Harden drew a walk and Brayden Pleau drove him in with a sharp RBI-double to left center field. That got the scoring started before Coleman Lewis struck. He drove his twelfth home run of the summer over the wall in right field. Lewis is now tied for the Green Bay single season record.
Connor Cavo kept Madison off of the scoreboard in the first three innings, pitching around some big jams. In the fourth inning, his luck ran out as Charlie Schau would clear the bases with a three-RBI double to tie the game. The walks were an issue for Cavo too, as the righty issued three in his four inning start. Madison led 5-3 at the end of the fourth with RBIs from Ashton Quiller and Josue Figueroa.
Green Bay got back on the board in the sixth inning with James Knoll’s RBI single up the middle. His first Northwoods League hit brought the Rockers within one. They trailed 5-4 before the Mallards had their second big inning of the game.
Quiller started the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot off of Henry Irwin. Figueroa then plated Preston Yaucher with a sacrifice fly before Brayden Zilis blew the game open. He roped a two-RBI double to right field. A four spot gave Madison a five run lead.
The Rockers made things interesting with two bases loaded walks in the seventh inning and one more in the ninth, but they still fell 10-7. Green Bay heads back to Madison tomorrow night for the final game of the season.
With Lakeshore’s win over Rockford, Green Bay was eliminated from playoff contention prior to the conclusion of their own contest. The Rockers will look to finish strong by winning the final game of the summer tomorrow. The game can be streamed on WNFL and Flo Sports.
