KALAMAZOO, MI – Adam Wheaton started on the pitcher’s mound and only allowed one hit in his 6.2 innings pitched against the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

Both teams were scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Growlers took the two-run lead including a solo home run by Sam Crail and an RBI single from Kawambee Moss that brought home Ivan Johnson.

The Growlers continued to extend their lead in the bottom of the seventh inning by scoring four more runs on two hits, including earned runs from Niko Kavadas, Jason Sullivan, Sam Crail, and one unearned from Jonathan Foster. A Woodchucks error in the seventh, followed by two more in the eighth allowed a lot of movement on base from the Growlers, which ended up hurting Wisconsin in the long run.

The Woodchucks attempted to make a comeback in the top of the ninth inning by scoring two runs on two hits and one Growlers error, but they fail to capitalize, and the game ended on a putout for the third and final out.

The Growlers win the first game of the series and take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks again on Tuesday, July 31st at 11:05AM before a doubleheader versus Wisconsin Rapids the following day.
