LA CROSSE- Coming off a weather-burdened series at Lakeshore, La Crosse got off to a bit of a foggy start. Alexandria made the trip down to the Lumberyard. Zach Lewis (Wabash Valley) got his fourth start of the season against Thomas Watson (Sante Fe).

The Blue Anchors took the lead early in the first and added two more in the third off a Ricky Sanchez (Notre Dame) home run. Small ball led to another two runs in the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, La Crosse got on the board. Riley Adams (San Diego) walked to start off the inning, he moved to second on his teammate’s, Ryan Kirby (San Diego), groundball. Will Savage (Columbia) and Alex Merritt (North Florida) singled, scoring Adams. Mason McCoy (Illinois Central) also singled but was unable to drive in any more runs that inning.

Matt Naylor (North Florida) relieved Zach Lewis and took the remaining four innings. Things started to clear up for the Loggers, but Alexandria was still able to extend their lead to 8-1. The Loggers got their momentum back in the 7th when the Jacob Boston (Mesa), who came in at 3rd base, led off with a single. Alex Merritt followed suit with his third hit of the night. Denz’l Chapman (San Diego State) walked to bring up Mason McCoy. Mason doubled bringing in Boston and Merritt. Chapman was caught in a pickle. McCoy soon found his way home when Jordan Zimmerman (Mesa) singled him in.

The Logger comeback fell short as Alexandria pulled out their fourth victory of the 2015 season. The Blue Anchors and the Loggers square off again tomorrow night. Come join us for Autism Night at the park presented by the La Crosse Autism Foundation; game time is 7:05.
