LA CROSSE, WI- A beautiful day previewed the performance tonight of Oregon State pitcher Kevin Flemer. He made his debut and threw a six inning shutout in the win against the Blue Anchors.

The Loggers looked to avenge their loss yesterday to the Blue Anchors. A win tonight would also put La Crosse a game above .500 in the first half standings. North Dakota’s Zach Muckenhirm faced Flemer on the mound for Alexandria.

It was a pitching duel for the first few innings. Grant Fennell (Nevada) tripled in the second, but was left on base and did not score. Keith Skinner (North Florida) got the ball rolling for La Crosse on a leadoff single. Jordan Zimmerman (Michigan State) hit him in on a grounder.

After another Logger threat in the 4th, Jordan Zimmerman and Brock Lundquist (Long Beach State) singled in the 5th. Zander Clarke (UCLA) walked and Ronnie Gideon (Texas A&M), also making his 2015 Logger debut, brought in Zimmerman. Lundquist also scored on the play after an error on the Muckenhirm throw. A Gideon pickle turned into another run when Zander Clarke sneaked behind the defense to score. The same at-bat, Grant Fennell drove in another run on a sacrifice fly to right.

The Loggers were not done there; Keith Skinner and Denz’l Chapman (San Diego State) charged the inning again with a leadoff singles. Skinner reached on an error, then Lundquist drove in two Loggers on his double. La Crosse added another insurance run in the 8th inning.

Logger pitching held strong and preserved the shutout as La Crosse won the contest 9-0. Next up in Copeland are the Battle Creek Bombers. It will be their first meeting of the season. Game time is 7:05, gates open at 6.
