LA CROSSE, WI- Madison is in town for a day/night doubleheader on the second-to-last day of the first half of the 2015, the final day for the Loggers. Kyle Nelson (UC-Santa Barbara) made his third start of the season and it ended up being one of the best of any Logger this season. He faced the hard throwing Hevor Bueno (Arizona State) for Madison.

The bats continued their prowness in the 1st inning. Jordan Zimmerman (Michigan State) took the count full before sending the next pitch into an outfield deck. La Crosse came right back at it in the third, hitting five consecutive singles. Zimmerman hit in a run and Brock Lundquist (Long Beach State) hit in two more including Mason McCoy (Iowa) for his 38th run of the season. That puts McCoy at tied for 11th for most runs in a season in Logger history.

Ronnie Gideon (Texas A&M) doubled to start the fourth and ended up scoring when a pickoff throw ended up down the first base line. Ronnie also got the 6th inning going on a single. Zander Clarke (UCLA) got plunked by a pitch. Ryan Kirby (San Diego) jumped out his slump to drive in Gideon with a single to right field.

Kyle Nelson finished his superb start with 7.0 innings pitched. He gave up no runs and struck out 5 Mallards. Ryan Marks (Columbia) did not fare as well. In a third of an inning, two batters reached on a walk and a hit-by-pitch before Cameron Frost (Washington State) slammed them home to cut the Logger lead in half. Madison added another run on a double off Jordan Pearce (Nevada).

Tensions were running high in the 9th as Madison put two ducks on the pond, but Ty Provencher (Long Beach State) was able to pull it out for his Northwoods League best 7th save of the season. Hope you made plans to come to the Lumberyard tonight because there is more baseball to be played. After a short break, Madison and La Crosse get back at it at 7:05. Gates open at 6.
