Waterloo, Iowa- La Crosse grabs the first game of the away/home doubleheader, 7-2. The win breaks the Loggers’ 6-game losing streak. Both teams travel north to La Crosse for game two tonight at 7:05.

In a scoreless game going into the 3rd inning, Griffin Conine (Duke) took the second pitch he saw for a home run. Luis Trevino (Houston) singled and Garrett Zech (South Florida) doubled, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with no one out. Mason McCoy (Iowa) scored Trevino on a groundout to the shortstop and Justin Wylie (San Diego State) singled in Zech to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Alex Boxwell (Minnesota) brought in the Bucks first run of the game with a single that scored Taylor Boyd (St. Joesph’s).

Griffin Conine doubled with one out in the 4th inning. He ended up scoring because of an error on the Waterloo third baseman Tyler Curtis (Lynn)

After Waterloo took another run in the bottom of the 4th, the Logger offense kept rolling in the 5th. Cullen Large singled to lead off the inning. Grant Fennell (Nevada) moved him over to 3rd with a double. Large was thrown out a home plate by Bucks’ second baseman Taylor Boyd. Griffin Conine drove in another run on his 3rd hit with a single that scored Fennell. Luis Trevino (Houston) brought in Kevin Collard (San Diego) to give the Loggers a 6-2 lead.

La Crosse added another in the 6th when Justin Wylie scored on a bases loaded walk. That was plenty enough to give the Loggers their first win in 7 games. The Lumbermen punched out 13 hits in the game, including at least one in six straight innings. Griffin Conine had a season high 3 hits with 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Luis Trevino also had 3 hits, for his 3rd triple-hit game of the season.

Mark Nowaczewski (Nevada) pitched 7 strong inning innings to get the win (3-1),  giving up 2 runs on 9 hits. Mark walked one and struck out 6 Bucks.

Jordan Accetta (Wofford) took his 3rd loss on the year (3-1). He pitched 4.1 innings, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits. He struck out 3 Loggers with no walks.

La Crosse gets back over .500 with the win (15-14). Waterloo snaps their 3-game win streak, falling to 19-9. Come down to the Lumberyard tonight because there is still more baseball to be played! Game two of the away/home doubleheader starts at 7:05 tonight at Copeland Park. Gates open at 6 pm.
