Mason McCoy passes Shayne Carnes with 130th career run
La Crosse, Wisc. – Mason McCoy (Iowa) broke the Northwoods League career runs record, held by former Waterloo Buck Shayne Carnes (1995-1997).
McCoy came into the game with 128 career runs and 0-15 from the plate in his previous four games. After starting the game 0-2, he hit a 2-run home run with two outs and Kyle Plantier (UC-Santa Barbara) on 1st base. That home run tied the record at 129.
His next at-bat came in the 7th inning, with no outs and Gavin Johns (UCLA) on 1st base. He hit a line drive double to the left field corner, moving to 3rd base when Johns was tagged out in a pickle between 3rd and home. Cullen Large (William & Mary) grounded out to the first baseman with one out, allowing McCoy to score his record-breaking 130th run.
Mason McCoy broke five Northwoods League single season records last season: Hits (112), runs (80), total bases (168), at-bats (305), and games played (71).
La Crosse defeated the Mankato MoonDogs 5-2. McCoy finished 2-for-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
