Errors Plague Loggers in 10-2 Loss

Five errors lead to seven unearned runs

La Crosse, Wis. – The La Crosse Loggers dropped their second loss of the season by a score of 10-2 Sunday night to the Rochester Honkers at Copeland Park and Event Center. It was a game to forget for the Lumbermen as they were outhit by the Honkers 17-5 and committed five errors in the field that led to seven unearned runs.

History repeated itself in the top of the first inning as Rochester’s Derek Scott led off the game with a home run for the second consecutive night, this time a no-doubter over the right-center field wall. The Loggers would answer in the bottom half with an unearned run as leadoff man Bryce Blaum reached on a throwing error. After a pair of strikeouts, returning Logger Korey Lee brought Blaum around to score with a base hit up the middle for his first RBI of the young season. The Loggers were led offensively by Lee (2-for-4) and Harrison Freed who went 2-for-3 with a double, walk, and a run scored.

The Honkers would put up a crooked number in the fourth inning, scoring four runs on two hits to go along with a pair of Loggers errors to extend their lead to 5-1. Loggers’ starting pitcher Grant Judkins would be chased with two outs in the inning after giving up five runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out five. Lefthander Eddie Miller entered the game in relief, revealing his impressive pickoff move to first base and catching three separate Honkers’ baserunners leaning in his 4.0 innings of work. Unfortunately, the southpaw only recorded one successful pickoff due to a couple of defensive miscues, finishing with four strikeouts and surrendering three runs (one earned) on seven hits. Rochester would strike again in the late innings, tallying on three runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth as every member of the Honkers’ batting order recorded a hit in the game. The Honkers were led by three-hit games from Derek Scott, Ryan Casper, and Jaylon McLaughlin.

Despite the poor outcome, Sunday was a memorable day at the Lumberyard as La Crosse honored National Cancer Survivor Day with the largest ceremonial first pitch in franchise history. The Loggers travel to Bismarck tomorrow to begin a two game set with the Larks in an early battle for first place in the North Division. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CT as the Loggers look to get back on track!
