LA CROSSE, WI- The La Crosse Loggers end their four game series with 7-5 win against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. The win prevented a sweep by Wisconsin. Graham Spraker (Quincy) got the win in his second start of the season.

The Woodchucks grabbed the first lead of the game in the fourth inning when Albee Weiss (Cal State Northridge) homered in just his second at-bat of his season. But that lead did not last very long; Mason McCoy (Illinois Central) brought in two runs when he reached on an error by the third basemen.

Wisconsin tied the game up in the sixth inning when they compiled three consecutive hits off of Spraker. The Loggers answered in the bottom half of the sixth with four more of their own. The big inning started off when Jordan Pearce (Nevada) singled. Alex Merritt (North Florida) hit one of his own, which moved Pearce to third. Jordan scored on a bad throw by the catcher on Merritt’s stolen base. Grant Fennell (Nevada) reached on a fielder’s choice and Michael Echavia (Chabot) walked. Both Loggers scored later in the inning.

La Crosse added an insurance run to go into the ninth inning with a promising 7-2 lead. Jordan Pearce came in to pitch in the beginning of the eighth, but couldn’t quite finish the game. Ty Provencher (Long Beach State) ended the Woodchuck comeback and picked up the first Logger save of the season.

Spraker pitched 5.1 innings, gave up 2 runs and fanned 5 Woodchucks. Liam Carter came into relieve Graham and threw 1.2 scoreless innings. The Loggers scored seven runs on eight hits. Leading the way was the trio of Jordan Pearce, Alex Merritt, and Grant Fennell each with two hits on the night.

La Crosse stays in town for two more nights as Willmar makes the trip down to the Lumberyard for an inter-division series. Game time tomorrow is 7:05 pm.
