ALEXANDRIA, MN – The La Crosse Loggers ran their winning streak to five games when they slugged their way to a 13-4 victory over the Alexandria Blue Anchors on Monday night at Knute Nelson Memorial Stadium in Alexandria, Minn.
The Lumbermen jumped out early in this one, plating one run in the first and one in the second to take a 2-0 lead. But the host Blue Anchors scored four times in the home half of the third inning to chase Loggers starter Graham Spraker (Quincy University) and give Alexandria a 4-2 lead.
That lead was short-lived however, as La Crosse answered with two runs in the fifth to knot the score at four. One inning later, Riley Adams (San Diego) would put the Loggers on top for good with a solo home run, his first of the summer. The Lumbermen would then break the game open with five runs on four hits in the eighth before tacking on three more in the ninth.
The Logger offense tallied fourteen hits on the night, led by Mason McCoy (Iowa), Will Savage (Columbia) and Troy Traxler (Minnesota) who each recorded three-hit nights and Savage drove in four runs.
Matt Naylor (North Florida) picked up the win in relief, tossing 5.1 shutout innings while limiting the Blue Anchors to five hits and striking out five.
With the win the Loggers improved to 8-6 on the season and will now travel to Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday to open a two-game set with the Rafters at Wittier Field. Air time on the Logger Radio Network is set for 6:30 p.m. with the first pitch to be thrown at 7:05 p.m.
