MEQUON, WI- Game 1 of the doubleheader against the Chinooks took place from the postponement in June due to fog. The two teams picked up the game in Kapco Park in the 3rd inning. The Loggers took no time to take the opener.
Jordan Pearce (Nevada) singled in place of his injured college teammate Grant Fennell. Riley Adams (San Diego) reached on an error. Ryan Kirby (San Diego) put the Loggers on the board with a 3-run blast. The home run adds to stretch of games as of late. Kirby has gotten a hit in 7 of the last 8 games, including 2 home runs.
In the 5th, Mason McCoy (Iowa) added on his team-high 6th home run. Brock Lundquist (Long Beach State) kept the inning going with a double of his own and made the full trek around the bases to score on a Keith Skinner (North Florida) RBI single. Just like that, La Crosse was up 5-0.
The Lumberman showed no signs of slowing down in the 6th when they loaded the bases with no outs for Mason McCoy. He singled to score Ryan Kirby. Jordan Zimmerman (Michigan State) walked a run in and Brock Lundquist brought in the 3rd run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to center.
Ryan Kirby continued his prowess at the plate with a 1-out triple to start the 7th. He scored the batter on a wild pitch.
The Chinooks managed a run with two outs in the 9th but it was too late as the Loggers took Game 1 9-1.
Graham Spraker (Quincy) had the unfortunate circumstance of making two starts in one game, but held strong pitching an inning. He combined with Michael Echavia (Chabot) to throw eight scoreless innings.
