Madison, Wis., The Mallards jumped out to an early lead in game one and never looked back. The loss makes it two straight for the Loggers and two straight wins for Madison.
The Mallards darted out to a big 6-0 lead in the 1st thanks to five hits and three walks off Logger starter Jack Ralston (UCLA). Graham Spraker (Quincy) came in early to clean up the inning, giving up two more runs on Ralston’s line.
J.J. Gould (Jacksonville) added a run for Madison in the 3rd with a leadoff triple. He came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Charlie Cody (Virginia). After three innings, Madison had put up seven runs and only gave up one Logger hit.
Madison kept the foot on the pedal in the 3rd with a two-run homer by Collin Theroux (Delta).
The Loggers got on the board in the 6th when Jordan Pearce (Nevada) and Chris Baker (Washington) walked with one out. Ryan Kirby (San Diego) singled to bring in Pearce. The Logger kept it going in the 8th with leadoff singles by Alex Merritt (North Florida) and Jordan Pearce. Chris Baker cut the Mallard lead to five with a 3-run home run.
The comeback was not enough as Madison took game one, 9-4. The loss drops the Loggers to 7-7 and 26-22. But, there is more baseball to be played. The two teams face off again at 7:05 as La Crosse looks to avenge their loss this afternoon.
