Mequon, Wisc. – La Crosse splits the series with Lakeshore and takes the season series over the Chinooks 3 games to 1 with a 4-1 victory in Kapco Park today.

La Crosse struck first in the 3rd inning. Gavin Johns (UCLA) singled as the leadoff batter. He moved to 3rd base on a groundout and a wild pitch. Justin Wylie (San Diego State) brought him home on a one out double.

The Loggers got it going again in the 5th inning. Mason McCoy (Iowa) doubled with an out in the inning. Justin Wylie followed him with a single, moving McCoy to 3rd base. Cullen Large (William & Mary) brought in a run with a ground-rule double. Grant Fennell (Nevada) hit a grounder to the shortstop, who tried to throw out Large from 2nd, but a poor throw allowed Wylie and Large to score, giving La Crosse a 4-0 lead.

Matt Johnson (South Dakota State) hit a solo home run in the 7th for Lakeshore’s only run of the game, but they could not grab any more runs for the rest of the game. Jared Liebelt (Waubonese CC) threw a perfect 9th inning for his 2nd save of the season.

Jack Ralston (UCLA) pitched very well in his first start of the season. He threw 5 scoreless innings, giving up only 4 hits. He walked a batter and struck out one as well.

Mitch Sewald (TCU) took the loss in his first appearance for Lakeshore (0-1). He lasted 3 innings, giving up a run on 3 hits. He struck out a batter and did not give up any walks.

La Crosse gets a 3-day break for the All-Star Festivities in Kenosha, Wisc. Mason McCoy (SS, Iowa) and Mitch Stalsberg (LHP, Winona State) will partake in the All-Star Game on Tuesday Night at 7:05. Griffin Conine (OF, Duke) will compete in the Home Run Derby tomorrow night at 6:30.

The Loggers will next play in Willmar on Thursday night, July 21st. Game time for that game is 7:05.
