IMG_7420La Crosse, Wisc. – The Thunder Bay Border Cats snapped a 7-game win streak by the La Crosse Loggers in a 8-4 win in Copeland Park.

Both starting pitchers quickly worked through each other’s lineup through 3 innings. Cullen Large (William & Mary) and Grant Fennell (Nevada) started the 4th inning with walks. They both scored on a Justin Wylie (San Diego State) bases loaded single to center field. Cesar Salazar (Arizona) was thrown out trying to make it to 3rd base.

Thunder Bay grabbed a run back in the next inning. Gui Gingras (St. John’s) led off the inning with a single to center field. He scored on a 2-out single by Andy Weber (Virginia).

Jack Ralston (UCLA) pitched well for the Loggers. He took the no decision, pitching 5 innings, giving up a run on 6 hits. He walked 2 and stuck out 4 batters.

The Border Cats returned in the 6th inning in a big way. Border Cat hitters churned out 4 consecutive singles, scoring one run and another on a bases loaded walk. In total, 7 runs scored on 7 hits, giving Thunder Bay a 8-2 lead. That broke a 57-inning streak of not trailing by La Crosse, dating back to the 3rd inning of Friday night’s game in Duluth.

La Crosse answered back in their half of the 6th. They loaded the bases with two outs for Mason McCoy (Iowa). Lars Nootbaar (USC) scored from 3rd on a wild pitch. The Loggers threat ended their on a groundout to the third baseman by McCoy.

Kyle Plantier (UC-Santa Barbara) brought in a run with a single in the 7th, but the Loggers could not recover, as they fell 8-4 to Thunder Bay

Brandon Langan (New Mexico) won his 2nd game of the season (2-7). He went 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. He walked 4 batters with one strikeout.

Cason Sherrod (Texas A&M) took the loss for the Loggers. He went two-thirds of an inning. He gave up 6 runs on 5 hits. He walked 1 and struck another out.

La Crosse falls to 15-10 in the 2nd half (32-29 overall). Thunder Bay moves up to 10-16 in the 2nd half (16-44 overall). The Loggers head to Mankato for the first time this season. La Crosse plays the MoonDogs in 6 of the final 10 games of the regular season. Game time tomorrow is 7:05 PM.
