WATERLOO, Iowa — The La Crosse Loggers used a five-run third inning to beat the first-place Waterloo Bucks for the second night in a row, defeating Waterloo 9-6 on Thursday at Riverfront Stadium.
The Loggers (9-15) scored five runs on three hits and two Waterloo (16-7) errors in the third inning. The first five Loggers reached base in the third with David Villar (South Florida), Kennie Taylor (Duke), Korey Lee (Cal) and Garrett Christman (Butler) all driving in runs.
The runs were more than enough for starter Miles Sandum (San Diego), who earned the win after allowing two runs on five hits in 5⅔ innings. Charlie Fletcher (William & Mary) and Hunter Davis (Duke) threw in relief of Sandum to secure the victory.
Seven different Loggers tallied 10 total hits on the night with Taylor, Christman and Matt Morales (UCF) leading the way with two hits each.
La Crosse will now travel north for one game in Willmar, Minn. against the Stingers on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with air time on the Logger Nation Station, the Eagle, 102.7 FM, set for 6:30 p.m.
