LA CROSSE, WI – It was a full house tonight at The Lumberyard. 3,480 Copeland Crazies came out on a beautiful Monday night to watch some La Crosse Loggers baseball and the outcome of the game did not disappoint. Playing host to the Waterloo Bucks, who went into the night tied for first in the North Division, the Loggers looked to change that. That they did, the Loggers would outlast the Bucks in a 5-4 thriller.
Getting the start tonight on the mound for the Loggers was RHP Grant Ford (Nevada). Ford would toss a strong 5.0 innings, despite a hiccup in the third inning, allowing a total of four runs on four hits and striking out four Bucks. Two brilliant relief performances would be given by RHP Andrew Owen (Villanova) and RHP Taylor Turner (Madonna) with Owen scoring the win on the night. Joe Rosenstein (Washington State) would collect the save. On the other side of the scoreboard, RHP Anthony Ruden would be handed the loss as the Loggers would put up all five runs on eight hits against him.
Leading the way tonight at the plate for the Loggers were Korey Lee (California) going 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, and a RBI and Cameron Cannon (Arizona) going 3-for-4 including a double, two runs scored, and three RBI mostly thanks to the go ahead two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning. That is about all the offense the Loggers would need tonight as they successfully pulled off the win pushing them to 14-19 on the seaon and dropping the Bucks out of first place by a game with one day left in the first half of the Northwoods League 2017 Season.
The Loggers will go on a short three-game road trip before returning to The Lumberyard on Friday, July 7 at 7:05 PM against the Duluth Huskies. There will be a live performance by THE ZOOPERSTARS presented by TORO with a POST-GAME FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA! Fridays also mean "Happy Hour" with HOWIE'S ON LA CROSSE! The gates will open at 6:00 PM. See you at The Lumberyard!
