WATERLOO, IA – The La Crosse Loggers dropped the final game of the first half of this 2017 season on Tuesday night, falling to the Waterloo Bucks in front of 1,898 fans at Riverfront Stadium.
La Crosse jumped out early in this one when lead-off man Kennie Taylor (Duke) doubled to start the game and then came around to score on an RBI groundout off the bat of David Villar (South Florida).
Waterloo would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the first off of Loggers starter Garrett Christman (Butler) to tie the score at one. But the Loggers would strike again in the third with a pair of runs thanks to an RBI triple from Luke Rasmussen (LBSU) followed immediately with an RBI double from Cam Cannon (Arizona) to take a 3-1 lead. That lead would be short lived as the Bucks answered right back with two of their own in the bottom half of the third to tie the score at three.
The score would remain deadlocked until the seventh when Waterloo would break push two unearned runs across against Logger reliever Peter Hamot (Lewis) following a pair of miscues to take a 5-3 lead that they would not relinquish.
The Lumbermen outhit the Bucks 10-9 on the night, led by Cannon's second straight three-hit night. Taylor, Grant Judkins (Iowa) and Jeremy Ydens (UCLA) each collected a pair of safeties.
With the first half of the season concluding, the second half will get underway on Wednesday night when the Loggers head north to Eau Claire to take on the Express at 6:35 p.m. Air time on the Logger Nation Station, the Eagle 102.7 FM, is set for 6:05 p.m.
