BISMARCK, ND – The La Crosse Loggers embarked on their first true road trip of the summer on Monday when they traveled 10 hours to Bismarck, ND and the hosts were not kind as they handed the Lumbermen a 9-1 defeat in front of 1,887 fans at Municipal Stadium.
The Loggers actually drew first blood when Donta Williams (Arizona) singled to lead-off the game in his 2018 debut and later came around to score to give La Crosse a 1-0 lead. But it would be all Larks after that as they scored once in the bottom of the first, four times in the fourth, three more in the fifth and added another in the sixth to put the game away.
Bismarck outhit the Loggers 14-6 on the night to improve to 5-2 while La Crosse fell to 4-3.
Daylon Matthews (Sac City) took the loss in his first start of the season, surrendering five runs on eight hits while striking out four over three innings. Korey Lee (Cal), who started the game at shortstop, came on to toss the final two innings of scoreless relief striking out three. Lee also totaled one of the team’s six hits.
The same two teams will go at it again on Tuesday in Bismarck. Chas Sagedahl (Southeastern CC) makes his second start of the summer for La Crosse. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. with air time on the Logger Radio Network set for 6:30 p.m.
