Urban Beats Border Cats
Andy Urban (Hutchinson CC) of the St. Cloud River Bats picked up his 1st win of the season against the Thunder Bay Border Cats Wednesday night. Urban, a 6'0'' right-handed pitcher from Lawrence, KS, threw 6.0 innings of four hit baseball to silence the Border Cats bats. The win puts Urban at 1-1 on the season with a 3.57 earned run average in 22.2 innings pitched.
Wisecarver Earns Win for Waterloo
Mike Wisecarver (Nicholls State) picked up his 2nd win of the 2011 season for the Waterloo Bucks as he shutout the hot hitting Madison Mallards. Wisecarver threw a rain shortened complete game as he finished with nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. The 5'10'' lefty from Kenner, LA now has a 1.99 earned run average in 22.2 innings pitched.
Alexandria’s Smith Silences Border Cats
Nate Smith (Furman) was impressive Tuesday night at Port Arthur Stadium against the Thunder Bay Border Cats. The 6'2'' right-handed pitcher picked up his 2nd win of the season as he threw a four hitter in 7.0 innings of work. Smith now has a 0.56 earned run average in 16.0 innings pitched.
Shellhorn Improves to 3-0
Rusty Shellhorn (Texas Tech) picked up his 2nd 'NWL Pitcher of the Night' after a two hitter in 6.0 innings of work for the Mallards. The 5'9'' left-handed pitcher won his 3rd game of the season as he struck out seven Bucks batters. Shellhorn now has a 1.17 earned run average in 23.0 innings pitched.
Swift Stellar for St. Cloud
Steven Swift (Diablo Valley) started his 3rd game of the season Saturday night for the St. Cloud River Bats and had his best outing. The 5'10'' right-handed pitcher threw 8.0 innings of two-hit baseball as he silenced the Border Cats bats. Swift is now 1-1 with a 0.95 earned run average in three games.
Willman Quiets MoonDogs Bats
Joe Willman (Northern Colorado) of Brainerd was impressive Sunday afternoon against the Mankato MoonDogs on the mound. Willman threw 8.0 innings and did not allow any runs while striking out seven. The 6'0'' lefty also had a 1-2-3 in six of his eight innings pitched. The Aurora, CO native is now 2-0 for the Lunkers with a 0.86 earned run average in 21.0 innings pitched.
Hermans One Hits Mallards
Zak Hermans (Princeton) allowed one hit in 6.0 innings of work Friday night. The 6'2'' righty from Coppell, Tex., now has a 2.46 earned run average in 11.0 innings of work. The Green Bay Bullfrogs starter had eight strikeouts in the win.
Waterloo’s Stevens Silences Loggers
Chase Stevens (Seminole State CC) was electric Thursday night against the La Crosse Loggers at Copeland Park. The 5'11'' right-handed pitcher threw 7.2 scoreless innings while only allowing one hit on the night. Stevens is now 2-1 with a 2.29 earned run average in three starts.
Forjet Earns 2nd Pitcher the Night
Jason Forjet (Florida Gulf Coast) may have not picked up the win Wednesday night, but he wins his 2nd 'NWL Pitcher of the Night' award. Forjet and the Lunkers won in extra innings against the St. Cloud River Bats by a score of 4-3. The right-handed pitcher did not allow a run in 7.0 innings of work. Forjet is now 2-0 with a 2.37 earned run average in 19.0 innings pitched.
Shellhorn Silents Express
Rusty Shellhorn (Texas Tech) threw a four hitter in 6.0 innings of work Tuesday night against the Eau Claire Express. The 5'9'' left-handed pitcher has pitched excellent for the Mallards in 2011. Shellhorn is currently 2-0 with a 1.59 earned run average in 17.0 innings pitched.
Griffin Gives It His All
Aaron Griffin (Loyola Marymount) of the Brainerd Lunkers earned a no-decision Sunday, but had a perfect game going until the 7th inning. Griffin threw 7.0 innings of two-hit baseball while allowing one run. The Lunkers lost 2-1 in 14 innings against the MoonDogs in Mankato.
