The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club has several full-time internships available each summer with full and part-time positions available for winter and spring.  Interns with the Honkers not only learn what it takes to run a baseball club on a daily basis, but also get the opportunity to work in an exciting, fast-paced environment.

Come work with an established team and connect yourself with a growing league as you gain valuable experience while having a fun-filled season. Being a part of the Rochester Honkers also gives you the opportunity of working with a five-time Northwoods League Champion as well as living in one of the top ranked cities in the United States.

The Rochester Honkers provide you the opportunity to be involved in every possible aspect of the organization, which may include advertising sales, on-field promotions, concessions management, ticket sales, merchandising, media relations, video production, photography and more. If you really want to learn, all you have to do is ask and join in.

The Honkers season is a fun-filled 72 game schedule with 36 home games, one League All-Star Game, and possible playoff games. Summer Internships run approximately from mid-May until the third week of August. Winter and Spring Internships are flexible and can begin as early as January and ending in May. Full Sport Management Internships, for the complete experience, run January through August.

Sports Management Internship

The Rochester Honkers offer a Sports Management Internship available to a student wishing to pursue a career in sports management. Dates of the internship to be determined based on the participating student’s schedule (full or seasonal). Our interns will acquire real-time working experience in a professional organization modeled after minor league and professional baseball.

Duties of the internship may include, but are not limited to:

  • Tickets and group sales
  • Developing new sponsorships and sponsorship sales
  • ​Working within the ticketing CRM program
  • Corresponding with current and potential sponsors
  • ​Identifying and contacting new potential partners
  • Strategic planning and brainstorming
  • Sales meetings
  • Merchandising/Souvenirs
  • Player procurement
  • Media and Social Relations
  • Concession operations and management
  • Public and Community Relations

All interns are expected to work outside of their “internship position” to do what it takes to assist the ball club in ALL aspects of operations and will be called on to assist and take on many duties and responsibilities. Internship hours can be extremely non-typical of a “work day” including both nights and weekends.

Game Operations

The Rochester Honkers offer a Game Operations Internship to a student wishing to pursue a career in sports management. This summer internship opens in May and lasts through mid August. Our interns will acquire real-time working experience in a professional organization modeled after minor league and professional baseball.

Duties of the internship may include, but are not limited to:

  • Game Day Operations and Concession Management:
  • ​Main Concession Stand
  • ​2 Specialized Concession Stands and game day vendors
  • 2 Specialized Group Areas (​1 Luxury Suite and 1 Private Elevated Patio)
  • Rochester Honkers Sports Deck
  • Group Outings (​Main grandstand area and Sports Deck)
  • Working within the guidelines of Food Safety and Public Health Department
  • Supervision and training of game day staff
  • Inventory management, stocking, rotating, and control
  • Stadium set-up/teardown
  • Concession Operations, Sports Deck, Group Areas, Plaza, etc.
  • In-game promotions and game day promotions
  • Fan & Community Relations
  • Sales meetings
  • General Office Duties on game days and non-game days
  • Work select non-Honker games at Mayo Field

Sports Media Relations

The Rochester Honkers offer a Sports Media Relations Internship to a student wishing to pursue a career in sports media relations. This summer internship opens in May and lasts through mid August. Our interns will acquire real-time working experience in a professional organization modeled after minor league and professional baseball.

Duties of the internship may include, but are not limited to:

  • Publication of the Daily Goose, a 60 page true game day program filled with updated stats, articles, player bios and advertising.  Daily Goose is published for all home games
  • Create materials for the Daily Goose through interviews, creative writing, investigative reporting and research
  • Writing/distributing post-game summaries and press releases for all home and away games (72 games scheduled)
  • Writing press releases for many other newsworthy items during the season.
  • Updating website nightly/daily for all home and away games during the season
  • Communicating with local and league wide media outlets through email, phone, etc.
  • Preparing pre-game Stat Packs for local and visiting media, scouts and coaching staffs
  • Assisting local and visiting media during all home games including radio broadcasters
  • Contributing to the Rochester Honkers’ radio and live video broadcasts
  • Assist in video production including press box set up, camera set up, and pre-game/post-game interviews
  • Reporting player transactions to the league, affiliates and stat and video services
  • Coordinating player/coach availability with media/broadcasters for pre/post game interviews
  • General pre/post game setup and break down of the press box including maintenance, manage space, and work with official scoring and scoreboard during games.
  • Must be able to meet Intense Deadlines for all hours of the day
  • Game day operations
  • Knowledge of Baseball, Corel Draw (preferred) / Adobe InDesign / Photoshop (or photo editing programs) / AP Style Book / Website Editing-Word Press / Final Cut Pro / Microsoft Office Products

All interns are expected to work outside of their “internship position” to do what it takes to assist the ball club in ALL aspects of operations and will be called on to assist and take on many duties and responsibilities.  Internship hours can be extremely non-typical of a “work day” including both nights and weekends.

Required Skills:

Energetic “can do” attitude, strong communication (phone, verbal, & written) skills, strong computer skills, ability to work with strict deadline, knowledge of the game of baseball, and willingness to work as part of a team. Must be proficient in desktop publishing, website maintenance, and Microsoft office products. General knowledge of In Design and photo editing programs in highly recommended.

Video Director 1 & 2 Internship

The Rochester Honkers offer a Video Director Internship to students wishing to pursue a career in sports video production. This summer internship opens in May and lasts through mid August. Our interns will acquire real-time working experience in a professional organization modeled after minor league and professional baseball.

Duties of the internship may include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct and Broadcast the 4-camera live HD Webcast including pre-game and post-game package
  • Camera selection, swithcing, graphic overlays, commercials, highlight clips
  • Manage 3 camera people
  • Maintain ALL video/broadcast production and press box equipment-Includes set-up and teardown
  • 4 HD cameras and stands/HD Video Equipment and PC Computer/Monitors
  • Scoreboard/Radar Gun/PA/Music
  • Create commercials/slides/creative’s to be incorporated into the HD video broadcast
  • ​Setting up Wirecast graphics
  • Filming players during batting practice and bullpens for scouts to view
  • Create post game highlight package for every home game and posting on Website and YouTube
  • Work directly with the HD streaming company and Northwoods League to ensure smooth broadcast
  • Make a season highlights DVD
  • Assist in game day operations
  • Knowledge of Final Cut Pro for PC/ Mac / Photoshop (or photo editing programs) / Website Editing / Adobe InDesign or Corel Draw/ Microsoft Office Products is required / Willingness to learn new technology!

All interns are expected to work outside of their “internship position” to do what it takes to assist the ball club in ALL aspects of operations and will be called on to assist and take on many duties and responsibilities.  Internship hours can be extremely non-typical of a “work day” including both nights and weekends.

Required Skills:

Energetic “can-do” attitude, a willingness to work as part of a team, strong communication (phone, verbal and written) skills, knowledge of video editing software, You Tube (both Mac and PC based), audio software, excellent computer skills, ability to manage people, work well in a fast-paced environment, and knowledge of the game of baseball.

Merchandise Internship

The Rochester Honkers offer a Merchandise Internship to a student wishing to pursue a career in retail and merchandising. This summer internship opens in May (or before) and lasts through mid August. Our interns will acquire real-time working experience in a professional organization modeled after minor league and professional baseball.

Duties of the internship may include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintenance of office retail store and stadium souvenier stand
  • Visual merchandising, pricing, tagging, organizing, stocking, inventory control
  • Game day souvenir stand management
  • Pre/post game set-up and break down of stadium souvenir stand
  • Daily Goose program sales
  • Process online, phone, and walk in orders (both tickets and merchandise)
  • Work with retail outlets in ordering merchandise
  • Train souvenir stand game day staff
  • Cash register operation, visual merchandising, sales​
  • General office duties
  • Customer relations
  • Game day operations

All interns are expected to work outside of their “internship position” to do what it takes to assist the ball club in ALL aspects of operations and will be called on to assist and take on many duties and responsibilities.  Internship hours can be extremely non-typical of a “work day” including both nights and weekends.

Required Skills:

Energetic “can do” attitude, proficient computer skills, math skills, strong communication (verbal and written) skills, previous experience in merchandising, knowledge of the game of baseball, and willingness to work as part of a team.

Ticketing Internship

The Rochester Honkers offer a Ticketing Internship to a student wishing to pursue a career in sports ticket management. This summer internship opens in May and lasts through mid August. Our interns will acquire real-time working experience in a professional organization modeled after minor league and professional baseball.

Duties of the internship may include, but are not limited to:

  • Ticket sales: management, inventory & control
  • Work directly with the Online Ticketing System
  • Phone, store, and online ticket orders
  • Box Seat management
  • Group ticketing and orders (Suite, Patio, and Sports Deck)
  • Box Seat management, Group Ticketing, Suites/Patio Sales
  • Organization of pre-purchased orders
  • Online, phone, and contract orders
  • Organize and manage pass lists for front office, staff and teams
  • Game day ticket booth management
  • Pre/post game set-up and break down of ticket booth
  • Daily Goose Program sales
  • General office duties
  • Customer relations
  • Game day operations

Social Media Internship

The Rochester Honkers offer a Social Media Internship available to a student wishing to pursue a career in Marketing or Graphic Design. Dates of the internship to be determined based on the participating student’s schedule (full or seasonal). Our interns will acquire real-time working experience in a professional organization modeled after minor league and professional baseball.

Duties of the internship may include, but are not limited to:

  • Update all social media outlets with proper etiquette and best practices
  • Compose and create posts including videos, photos, albums, etc.
  • Find users to follow/friend/like the Rochester Honkers social media pages
  • Reply to comments and messages
  • Interact within the community through social media
  • Design graphics to post on social media to generate fan attendance
  • Take photos to use in graphics as needed
  • Create flyers for upcoming promotions to help generate attendance in Rochester and the surrounding area
  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Honkers Store when needed (Merchandise and Ticket Sales)
  • General office duties
  • Knowledge of tickets available and ticket packages
  • Process ticket orders in the store and over the phone

Photography Internship

The Rochester Honkers offer a Photography Internship available to a student wishing to pursue a career in photography. Dates of the internship to be determined based on the participating student’s schedule (full or seasonal). Our interns will acquire real-time working experience in a professional organization modeled after minor league and professional baseball.

Duties of the internship may include, but are not limited to:

  • Take pictures during all Rochester Honkers home games (away games schedule permitting)
  • Update, organize, and maintain Honkers picutres on server
  • Design graphics for various departments and events
  • Coordinate mascot Slider/player apperaances in the Rochester area
  • Take pictures of Slider/players with attendees at these events
  • Informing Rochester and surrounding area of upcoming games creatively to generate fan attendance
  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Honkers Store when needed (Merchandise and Ticket Sales)
  • General office duties
  • Knowledge of tickets available and ticket packages
  • Process ticket orders in the store and over the phone
  • Customer relations
  • Game day operations
