LOVES PARK, Ill. – On this Fourth of July weekend, the Rockford Rivets plan to honor current and veteran armed forces members.

 

Each current and veteran armed forces member can get two free tickets to the best seats in the ballpark on Friday and on July 4. Tickets can be obtaining in advance by calling 815-240-4159 or visiting the Rivets Stadium box office at 4503 Interstate Blvd. in Loves Park. On the day of the game, they can be picked up at the box office.

 

On Friday, the Rivets will treat fans to a postgame fireworks show. On July 4, the Rivets will host their first Bark in the Park and an opportunity to play catch on the field after the game. Fans of all ages are welcome to play catch.

 

The Rivets play the Kalamazoo Growlers at 6:35 p.m. on Friday, and the St. Cloud Rox at noon on July 4. Gates open an hour prior to game time.

 

Rockford is a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League, which will play its 23rd season of summer collegiate baseball in 2016. The Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 150 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (Washington Nationals) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (Chicago White Sox), Jordan Zimmermann (Detroit Tigers), Curtis Granderson (New York Mets), Lucas Duda (Mets) and Ben Zobrist (Chicago Cubs).
